Project Updates: DoubleDragon to build CityMall off Boracay, Philippines

CityMall

CityMall Commercial Centers Inc. (CMCCI), the mall development arm of DoubleDragon Properties Corp., is planning to open a CityMall in Kalibo, Aklan.

CMCCI said it has secured a prime commercial lot with an area of 1.1 hectares within the commercial and residential zones in the town proper of Kalibo.

The lot is located along a new road to be built that will cut across and connect Mabini and Toting Reyes Street. The site is bounded by Kalibo Public Market, Kalibo Pilot Elementary School, Aklan Memorial Hospital, Dr. Rafael S. Tumbokon Memorial Hospital and Kalibo Institute.

Kalibo is the capital of Aklan and serves as the jump-off point to Boracay Island.

“As a major tourism entryway, the inflow of tourists to Boracay Island catalyzes rapid economic expansion and municipal landscape development, making it ideal to put up a CityMall in the area,” CMCCI said.

CMCCI said it aims “to uplift the community mall standard and is seen to revolutionize the community mall industry in the Philippines.”

DoubleDragon, the property firm of Mang Inasal founder Edgar “Injap” Sia II and Jollibee Foods owner Tony Tan Caktiong, is planning to open 100 CityMalls in the next 5 years, mostly located outside Metro Manila.

A CityMall outlet is a one-floor strip mall with 5,000 to 10,000 sqm of retail space.

The first CityMall will be built in Roxas City, and is expected to be completed by December 2014.
