Perth Airport has awarded a contract for a project that would see the construction of an expansive landscaped forecourt to help improve access to Terminal 1. Ertech Holdings has secured the $16.6 million construction contract for the first phase of the forecourt project, part of $42 million makeover of the Terminal forecourt that also features construction of a spacious 27 metre entry plaza.
The first section of the forecourt which is in front of the entry to the new Domestic Pier and International Departures area will be opened with the Pier later in the year.
The improved forecourt would sport additional facilities like a bus station, enhanced pedestrian access and pick-up/drop-off areas, covered walkways and seating. The investment would also comprise setting up facilities including Wi-Fi coverage, additional lighting, public art and enhanced landscaping with plants native to Western Australia.
The forecourt will be built with provision for future terminal expansion plans, including new retail outlets.
Perth Airport Chief Executive Officer Brad Geatches said: “Ertech is an established Western Australian company that brings a wealth of civil engineering and construction experience to this project. We are pleased to welcome them to Perth Airport and are confident that they will be able to deliver a high quality product.”
The T1 Forecourt Project is expected to be completed in May 2016.
Ertech executive chairman Jim Giumelli added: “Ertech is pleased to be selected to undertake this important and exciting project for Perth Airport. The contract supports the transformation of the international gateway into Western Australia and we are proud to be involved in another world class project.”
Perth Airport is currently undergoing $1 billion redevelopment programme, under which various projects have already been completed.
